The ISEPS Program
The
Instituto Sevillano de Estudios y Prácticas (ISEPS)
is an independent, educational and socio-cultural institute that
offers a series of five overseas studies programs in Seville,
Spain. These programs are carefully developed to address the requirements
of undergraduates with particular abilities and interests as related
to realizing an international study abroad experience that will
serve as a formative part of both their academic life and career
preparation. Of special note are the unique ISEPS hands-on real-world Internships in a wide range of professional disciplines for those students who wish to seriously develop genuine professional experience prior to graduation.
Every ISEPS program is designed to be an educationally
viable learning process that responds proportionately to the individual
Spanish language level of each program participant. ISEPS's hands-on
guidance and support, founded on an individualized Advisor/Counselor
system for the participant, reinforces the institute's
extensive course offering from the University of Seville, the
largest such offering of any present international studies program
at the school.
Seville - The City and the University
The City of Sevilla is truly one of the world's most magnificent cities, enjoying a rich history spanning more than two millennia. Its marvelous cultural legacy lives on in its beautiful buildings, parks, festivals, and very special way of life. When in Seville, one is a direct witness to how the varied civilizations and cultures of her past have created in her people warmth and open mindedness. You will never forget Seville, nor her people. To know more about Seville go to: "www.turismo.sevilla.org".
The Universidad de Sevilla is a world-class educational institution, with an impressive list of noted graduates down through the centuries, including many well-known diplomats, humanists, and builders of the future. This building is Spain's second largest historical structure, creating a tiny world within Seville. To learn about the university go to: "www.us.es".
ISEPS Programs
There
are five separate ISEPS programs at the University of Seville.
Each one is built on the principles of academic advancement, cultural
immersion, and career preparation. While each program is autonomous,
ISEPS is open to considering circumstances and/or conditions that
may occasion the need to combine different program options to
tailor a specially recommended overseas studies approach for the
given participant/s.
The Language & Humanities Program is designed for students with an overall GPA of 2.75 and 2 - 2½ years of Spanish language study with a corresponding GPA of 3.0 in the same. The program participants will draw on courses from the university's Cursos para Extranjeros, with the option of selecting one course in their Liberal Arts major along with Spanish students.
The Advanced Studies Program (ASP) is intended for those undergraduates in Liberal Arts, Sciences or Technology with a genuinely competent ability level in the Spanish language, an overall GPA of 3.0, and a GPA of 3.2 in their major. Participants in ASP select courses in the university's corresponding departments or schools for which they are best suited, and study alongside Spanish students. Admission to ASP requires successfully participating in a telephone interview in Spanish.
The Advanced Program for Business & Economics (APBE) is accessible to students with a genuinely competent ability level in the Spanish language, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and a GPA of 3.2 in their major. Participants in APBE choose courses in the university's School of Económicas y Empresariales, and attend classes with Spaniards. In APBE the program participant may opt to take an accredited internship, working in a professional environment of direct interest to him/her. Admission to APBE requires successfully participating in a telephone interview in Spanish.
** Cost covers courses, university and registration charges, academic support, related academic meetings and events, orientation, cultural and local activities, housing, meals, laundry, student program insurance, availability of cell phone, special dinners, etc.
*** This is the latest possible date for end-of-semester academic activities. ISEPS will endeavor to assist the program participant in hopefully completing his/her academic activities before this date.
**** Students may elect to stay on for extra time in May in program - provided housing, by informing ISEPS staff.
ISEPS students will be fully immersed in the Vida Sevillana. To facilitate the experience, the above-listed ISEPS program features an introductory orientation that includes trips to neighboring cities such as Cordobá, and cultural and local activities throughout the course of the entire semester. From architecture to art, or from music appreciation to dancing Sevillanas, the objective is to enrich each student's study abroad experience via quality cultural immersion.
The
ISEPS Summer Session features a tailor-made course
ISEPS 400: Spanish Syntax & Lexicology that
is designed for participants at the intermediate and advanced
levels of Spanish. The course focuses on moving the student from
passive (listening and reading) to active (speech and writing)
Spanish language ability, and on increasing vocabulary without
memorization. The class carries a 6-credit recommendation. All
instruction is in Spanish.
This
is a personalized, hands-on course - in an academic
setting with limited student numbers - that has
class time supported by individualized tutorial and
peer group sessions. In essence, ISEPS jumpstarts
the participant forward.
The
approximate time duration for the Summer Session is May 15 - June
30, of which five weeks are for the course itself, for a cost
of $3,300 which includes the course, an assigned Advisor/Counselor,
ongoing personalized student attention, study materials and support,
housing, meals, laundry, insurance, special outings, and cultural
events.
The
ISEPS Special Projects Option (SPO) offers hands-on
internship programs in Seville, for the serious student who wishes
to use his/her time abroad as a constructive platform for accruing
genuine career development experience, in a Spanish-speaking professional
environment.
There
are Internships available in International Trade &
Commerce, Global Tourism, International Business, Journalism and
Communications, Franchising, Comparative Education, Immigrant
and Refugee Affairs, Pre-Law, and other areas, and
are for 3-6 credits depending on the determined scope of work.
ISEPS's unrivaled access to real world experiences in Seville
creates a carefully controlled and credit-worthy experience. An
ISEPS internship is not a push-the-photocopier-button job; this
is real work.
Internships
are available in the Fall and Spring Semester as a part of the
overall semester academic plan (~ 12 - 14 weeks) for an added
cost of $600, or alternatively in the Summer Session May 15 -
June 30 on its own (~ 5 - 6 weeks) for a cost of $3,900 which
includes the internship, ongoing counseling, study materials and
support, housing, meals, laundry, insurance, special outings,
